“The First Residents of Çankırı” Event

A conference titled “The First Residents of Çankırı” was organized by the Traditional Turkish Handicrafts Research and Application Center. Students, participants and online viewers came together in the hybrid event.

Prof. Ayla Sevim Erol, Ph.D., a faculty member of the Anthropology Department of the Ankara University Faculty of Language, History and Geography, participated in the conference as a speaker. General information was provided about the purpose, importance and necessity of the field of anthropology (human science) in the event. The special value of the province of Çankırı in terms of anthropology was emphasized. Information was provided about the Çorakyerler Vertebrate Fossil Locality excavation in Çankırı. Ms. Sevim Erol, who was the head of this excavation, stated that the first “HOMININ” find in Anatolia was found in our province and after the hominin find was given a new genus name by the team, it was published in the journal Nature under the name “Anadoluvius turkae”, thus making the world accept the hypothesis that human history began in Çankırı. The conference, which was listened to with interest by the participants and students, ended with questions and wishes.
