An online/face-to-face event was held on 21.11.2024 within the scope of Conference Days by the Traditional Turkish Handicrafts Application and Research Center. The conference, moderated by Assoc. Prof. Arzu EVECEN and presented by Nişantaşı University faculty member Prof. Hülya TEZCAN, Ph.D. under the title "Talisman Shirts", was completed with the participation of faculty members, administrative staff and students. At the conference, talismanic shirts belonging to the archives in Topkapı Palace, worn by Ottoman palace sultans and princes or prepared for them, were introduced. It was announced that the meanings of the signs, writings and symbols on these shirts and the fabric and model features vary according to the fashion of the period. Stating that there are similar examples in many different cultures, Tezcan said that the preparation process of talismanic shirts is completed by calligraphers and miniaturists in approximately 3-4 years, that the fabric is processed to achieve the desired appearance, that the colors are obtained from root dyes, and that it is used against situations such as illness, war and the evil eye. He talked about beliefs in its positive and healing power.
