Tradition and Postmodernism Online Conference

As part of the Conference Days organized by the Çankırı Karatekin University Traditional Turkish Handicrafts Application and Research Center, an online event titled "Tradition and Postmodern" was held on June 3, 2026, at 2:00 PM, with Prof. Dr. Hikmet Şahin, a faculty member of the Painting Department at Selçuk University Faculty of Fine Arts, as the speaker. At the event, Prof. Dr. Hikmet Şahin discussed the place of the concept of tradition within contemporary art and design understandings, and the approach of postmodern thought to traditional cultural elements. In his talk, Şahin touched upon how traditional values are reinterpreted in contemporary art and design practices, and evaluated the aesthetic and cultural relationships established between the past and the present through various examples. Conference on Visual Construction of Humor in Cartoons: From Traditional Lines to Contemporary Interpretation

The conference, titled "The Visual Construction of Humor in Cartoons: From Traditional Drawing to Contemporary Interpretation," focused on the structural, functional, and thematic transformations the cartoon genre has undergone since its emergence in the 16th century. Following this, humor, its types, and the functioning of the concept of humor in cartoons were examined. The formal tools that create humor in cartoons (line and color) and theories of visual composition were explained. The relationships between these formal tools used in cartoons to visualize any story in a humorous way were discussed, and examples of cartoons from different centuries were analyzed. The event concluded with a Q&A session followed by thanksgiving and best wishes.

The Reflections of Cultural Heritage in Art and Design Conference

“The Reflections of Cultural Heritage in Art and Design” conference, organized by the Traditional Turkish Handicrafts Application and Research Center within the scope of International Museums Week, was held on May 21, 2025 at the Çankırı Museum with the intense participation of Çankırı Deputy Governor Recep Yüksel, Çankırı Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism Muammer Ovacıklı, academics and students. Assoc. Prof. Nuray Akkol presented how the reflections of cultural heritage in the paintings of the Baksı Museum and Hüsamettin Koçan are reinterpreted in contemporary art practice; Assist. Prof. Seçil Ermiş İpek presented examples of the reflections of cultural heritage in the works of Turkish graphic designers. Moderated by Assoc. Prof. Arzu Evecen, the event ended with a Q&A session enriched with questions from the participants and a thank-you speech.

The First Residents of Çankırı Conference

A conference titled “The First Residents of Çankırı” was organized by the Traditional Turkish Handicrafts Research and Application Center. Students, participants and online viewers came together in the hybrid event. Prof. Ayla Sevim Erol, Ph.D., a faculty member of the Anthropology Department of the Ankara University Faculty of Language, History and Geography, participated in the conference as a speaker. General information was provided about the purpose, importance and necessity of the field of anthropology (human science) in the event. The special value of the province of Çankırı in terms of anthropology was emphasized. Information was provided about the Çorakyerler Vertebrate Fossil Locality excavation in Çankırı. Ms. Sevim Erol, who was the head of this excavation, stated that the first “HOMININ” find in Anatolia was found in our province and after the hominin find was given a new genus name by the team, it was published in the journal Nature under the name “Anadoluvius turkae”,...

Silent Heirs of Anatolia Event

The online event was held on 27.12.2024 within the scope of the ‘Conference Days’ organized by the Traditional Turkish Handicrafts Application and Research Center. The conference, moderated by Assist. Prof. Özge KILIÇ, Ph.D. and presented by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Artist Özlem IŞIK SARIHAN under the title of “Anatolia’s Silent Heirs”, was completed with the participation of academicians and students. Within the scope of the conference, information about artdoll art was given, how the artist’s interest in artdoll art began, how her interest in and observations of nomadic women formed the basis of the products were mentioned. In addition, it was emphasized that the feelings, emotions and stories of Anatolian women from the past to the present were taken as the basis in the products designed by the artist, the place of artdoll art in Turkish culture and how it is represented in the international arena.

Talisman Shirts Event

An online/face-to-face event was held on 19.11.2024 within the scope of Conference Days by the Traditional Turkish Handicrafts Application and Research Center. The conference, moderated by Assoc. Prof. Arzu EVECEN and presented by Nişantaşı University faculty member Prof. Hülya TEZCAN, Ph.D. under the title "Talisman Shirts", was completed with the participation of faculty members, administrative staff and students. At the conference, talismanic shirts belonging to the archives in Topkapı Palace, worn by Ottoman palace sultans and princes or prepared for them, were introduced. It was announced that the meanings of the signs, writings and symbols on these shirts and the fabric and model features vary according to the fashion of the period. "Meaning and Functions of Hıdırellez" Event

An online event called "Meaning and Functions of Hıdırellez" was organized by the Traditional Turkish Handicrafts Application and Research Center on 06.05.2024 within the scope of "Hıdırellez Celebrations". The event which Prof. Mehmet Aça, Ph.D., faculty member of Marmara University Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Turkish Language and Literature Department, participated as a speaker, was moderated by Assoc. Prof. Serap Aslan Cobutoğlu, Ph.D., a faculty member of our university. Aça, who made evaluations about the philosophical background of Hıdırellez during his speech, focused on the meaning and importance of Hıdırellez, the problem of "meaninglessness", which is seen as one of the biggest problems of the modern age, and mans search for meaning in life, the fine line at the intersection of birth and death, ecological data, and traditional myths. The event ended after questions and contributions from faculty members from various universities.

“Commemoration of Yunus Emre on the 703rd Anniversary of His Death and Yunus Love Album” Event

The conference titled "Commemoration of Yunus Emre on the 703rd Anniversary of Her Death and Yunus Love Album" was held online on Thursday, May 2, 2024, as the first event of our center this year. At the conference, Mehmet Efe explained the differences between Yunus Emre Oratorio, one of Ahmet Adnan Sayguns unforgettable works, and the Yunus Emre and Love Album they prepared. 12 works in the album were played at the event. Göksel Baktagir, a valuable artist and best participant in the conference, was also connected as a guest and felt and listened to.

Summer Term Art Workshops Closing Events

"Summer Term Art Workshops Closing Events", prepared in partnership with Çankırı Karatekin University Traditional Turkish Handicrafts Application and Research Center and Çankırı Family and Social Policies Provincial Directorate, were held. With the workshop product exhibitions prepared by our children in Çankırı Korgun Children`s Site and Çankırı Çekom under the guidance of the faculty members of the Faculty of Art Design and Architecture during the summer term and ended with a mini concert by Assoc. Prof. Tuğba Çağlak Eker`s, Ph.D. (Piano) and Assist. Prof. Elvan Karakoç, Ph.D. (Violin). The Event took place with the participation of Our esteemed rector Prof. Harun Çiftçi, Ph.D., our Vice Rector Prof. Hüseyin Odabaş, Ph.D., Provincial Director of National Education Muammer Öztürk, our academics and administrative staff and students.

Summer Term Art Workshops Event

Summer Term Art Workshops events, which were prepared in partnership with the Traditional Turkish Handicrafts Application and Research Center and Çankırı Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Policies, have been completed. The events, which were carried out with the devoted efforts of Çankırı Karatekin University faculty members as well as volunteer students and guests who supported the event, lasted 3 months.
